Blog Assignment #10
I don’t really know what I want to do when I grow up, but I do know a job that would be pretty awesome. A video game tester. This would be cool because you would get to play video games and get paid for it. I would also like it because you would get to play new video games before anybody else. The bad thing about it is that you would probably get into a lot of glitches. That is one thing I might do when I grow up.

My oldest step-daughter, Jennifer, once worked for a video game company in Vancouver. I believe she worked somehow in communications. I remember her talking about how young (under 28) most of the people working at the company were. I believe she was 24 or 25. She also mentioned the long hours each week people worked – 60 to 80 hours or more. She eventually quit this job and decided that she was ready to grow up and become a doctor. She now studies for 12 hours or more a day.

My mum used to be a youth employment counselor and the job that everyone always said they wanted was video game tester. I guess it’s a true dream job for many people! Do you know anything about how to get a job doing that or how many people are currently working as game testers? I wonder how much they would get paid. I don’t think I would like it, to be honest, because when I start to play a game I will sit there for waaaay too long and my eyes start to get sore and red and then my back starts to hurt and my fingers and wrists begin to hurt. I think for myself I need something more active. Do you play a lot of video games? What is the longest amount of time you’ve ever played for and which game was it? What if you had to play games you didn’t like? Would the job still be good?

That sounds like a fun job! but I think I would get tired of staring at a tv all day long playing video games after awhile. What about becoming a video game creator? Do you think you would like doing that?
